London. What They Don't Tell You.
10 things gay travellers need to know before they visit.

1. The Tube is fast but your feet are faster in the centre.
In zones 1 and 2, walking between bars, restaurants, and venues is often quicker than waiting for a train. Download Citymapper and start walking.

2. Avoid chain restaurants in central London. Full stop.
They are expensive, mediocre, and everywhere. Step one street off the tourist strip and the quality improves immediately. Your community told us this unprompted — it's that consistent a mistake.

3. Vauxhall is the gay nightlife capital, not Soho.
Soho is where you drink. Vauxhall is where the night actually happens. If you're planning a big night out, you'll end up south of the river.

4. It's expensive. More than you've budgeted for.
Drinks, food, taxis — London charges a premium for everything. Add 30% to whatever you think you'll spend and you'll be closer to reality.

5. People in pubs are genuinely friendly.
Londoners have a reputation for being cold. In a pub, that disappears entirely. Sit at the bar, strike up a conversation, and you'll leave with a new friend.

6. Watch your phone.
Bike theft and pickpocketing in crowded areas is real. Keep your phone in your pocket on busy streets and stay aware in tourist-heavy areas.

7. The gay scene is spread across the city.
Soho, Vauxhall, Dalston, Hackney — different crowds, different energy, different nights. Know which one suits you before you go rather than defaulting to wherever you land first.

8. Walk faster or stand to the side.
This is not a joke. Londoners move with purpose. On escalators, stand on the right. On pavements, keep moving. You will be silently judged otherwise.

9. There is always something happening.
No matter the night of the week, London has an event, a club night, a bar takeover, or a sauna special worth knowing about. Do five minutes of research before you arrive.

10. It's one of the most multicultural, welcoming cities in the world.
Underneath the pace and the expense, London is genuinely one of the best cities on earth for gay travellers. The scene is world class, the food is extraordinary, and the city rewards people who explore it properly.
